Storytelling as a tool for investigation
As the new Editor-in-Chief, arriving from Libération where he served as Deputy Head of Investigations, Guillaume Gendron reaffirms his faith in 'narrative journalism'—the hallmark of XXI since its inception. He emphasizes a deep-rooted "belief in and love for the written word, for storytelling, for reporting, and for the elsewhere—whether near or far." He also outlines the new directions he aims to drive forward.
Our method will remain, as ever, deep-dive investigation, but with an adjusted tempo. Rather than the idea of "slow-motion", we advocate for being one step ahead. We seek to dismantle the mechanics of power, always keeping that old Anglo-Saxon adage in mind: "Show, don’t tell". All while committing ourselves to telling the stories of the brave, the bold, and the mavericks who challenge the status quo.
A digital-first approach
Historically a long-form journal published quarterly, Revue21 is now primarily deploying its content on its website, Revue21.fr. Readers can now enjoy discovering new articles every week. They can find the major stories, investigations, reports, columns, portfolios, and comic strips in a beautifully printed quarterly publication, available through their subscription, in bookstores, and at newsstands.
About Revue21
Since 2008, Revue21 has offered a unique model in the French press by focusing primarily on narrative journalism. Fully engaged with its time, it chronicles the century by exposing the mechanisms of power—whatever they may be—by delivering long-form reports from home and abroad, and by offering character-driven stories centered on colorful individuals. Beyond the written word, Revue21 also enhances every article through original productions by renowned illustrators and photographers.
Revue21 is a fully independent publication: ad-free, sponsor-free, and funded exclusively by its readers. Since 2023, it has been published by Indigo Publications, a media group specializing in French and international investigative journalism.
